Chris Wraight's Space Wolves trilogy follows the Jarnhamar Pack, a squad of the Space Wolves Space Marine chapter, through a sequence of grinding, casualty-heavy campaigns that test the brotherhood holding the pack together. Blood of Asaheim (2013) reunites pack-mates Ingvar and Gunnlaugur after decades apart, throwing them into a brutal war against the Death Guard that reopens old, unresolved tensions between them even as the battle demands they fight as one. Stormcaller (2014) and The Helwinter Gate (2022) carry the pack through further wars on Fenris and beyond, with the long gap between the second and third volumes reflecting a real-world hiatus rather than any change of plan for the story.
Where a lot of Space Marine fiction leans on overwhelming firepower and certain victory, Wraight's Space Wolves novels are more interested in what sustained loss does to a small, tightly bonded unit -- the trilogy is frequently cited as one of the more character-driven takes on the chapter, closer in tone to a war novel than a straightforward action story.
Three: Blood of Asaheim (2013), Stormcaller (2014), and The Helwinter Gate (2022).
Ingvar and Gunnlaugur, two Space Wolves of the Jarnhamar Pack whose old rivalry resurfaces as they're reunited for a brutal war against the Death Guard in Blood of Asaheim.
No official reason for the roughly eight-year gap has been confirmed by Black Library; the trilogy simply resumed and concluded in 2022 after a long hiatus.
It's a self-contained story with its own cast. Wraight's other major 40k series, the Vaults of Terra trilogy, is tracked separately in this catalogue and shares no characters with this one.
