About the Richards & Klein series

Guy Haley's Richards & Klein series (sometimes called the Richards & Klein Investigations) is a near-future science fiction thriller duology following Otto Klein, an augmented ex-soldier, and Richards, an artificial intelligence occupying his own virtual world, who investigate cases spanning the border between physical reality and the fully-realised virtual realm of the Grid. Reality 36 (2011), Haley's debut novel, opens with the pair investigating the apparent murder of an AI rights philosopher inside a virtual world, a case that spirals into a conspiracy threatening both the Grid and the physical world beyond it. Omega Point (2012) continues directly from its cliffhanger ending.

The series blends noir-detective plotting with transhumanist and posthuman speculation about AI personhood and virtual reality, distinct in tone from Haley's later, more action-driven Warhammer fiction.

Frequently asked questions

How many books are in the Richards & Klein series?

Two novels: Reality 36 (2011) and Omega Point (2012). Both were later collected in a single-volume omnibus, Richards & Klein (2021).

Is this Guy Haley's Warhammer fiction?

No. Richards & Klein is original, non-Warhammer science fiction -- Haley's debut novel series, published by Angry Robot before his Black Library work made him primarily known for Warhammer 40,000 fiction.

Do I need to read The Nemesis Worm first?

It helps but isn't required -- it's a short prequel novella, not part of this catalogue's novel-length tracking.
