The order the books were released — the default way to read the series.
The order the story's events happen in, novellas slotted where they belong.
Viv is an orc mercenary who has spent her whole career fighting, and she's done. She retires to a city that has never heard of coffee, sinks her savings into a run-down building, and sets out to open the world's first coffee shop -- armed with nothing but a battered war-gains gem, a recipe she barely remembers, and zero customer-service experience.
Travis Baldree essentially defined modern 'cozy fantasy' with this book: no world-ending stakes, no dark lords, just a found-family cast of misfits (a soft-hearted hob handyman, a rattkin baker, a succubus barista) helping Viv build something out of nothing, with a gentle romance simmering alongside the coffee. It's a slice-of-life comfort read that trusts small stakes -- can she get the espresso machine working, will the neighborhood accept her -- to carry real emotional weight.
The two books that followed expand the same loosely-connected world through new lead characters and their own low-stakes, found-family projects, while keeping the same gentle, hopeful tone that made the original a runaway hit and a genre-defining comfort read for readers burned out on high-stakes epic fantasy.
Three novels -- Legends & Lattes, Bookshops & Bonedust, Brigands & Breadknives -- plus a free companion novella, Goblins & Greatcoats, a bonus short story, Pages to Fill, and the short-story collection Tales from the Territory.
The books are marketed as standalone-in-a-shared-world and can be read in any order. By publication: Legends & Lattes, Bookshops & Bonedust, Brigands & Breadknives, then the collection Tales from the Territory.
Yes, it's set earlier in the story timeline than Legends & Lattes, even though it was published a year and a half later.
No. Each novel follows different lead characters and stands on its own within the shared world.
No new full-length novel has been confirmed as of August 2026. A short-story collection, Tales from the Territory, is scheduled for October 1, 2026, gathering Goblins & Greatcoats and Pages to Fill alongside three new stories.
