About the Rosie Hopkins' Sweetshop series
Rosie Hopkins is a London nurse who travels to the small Derbyshire village of Lipton to help her elderly, ailing great-aunt Lilian close down the traditional sweetshop she's run for decades -- and instead falls for the shop, the village, and the old-fashioned craft of proper handmade sweets, deciding to save the business rather than shutter it. Welcome to Rosie Hopkins' Sweet Shop of Dreams (2012) introduces Rosie, Lilian, and Lipton; Christmas at Rosie Hopkins' Sweet Shop (2013) and The Christmas Surprise (2014) continue Rosie's life running the shop and building a family of her own in the village.
As with much of Jenny Colgan's work, the trilogy uses a small, traditional food business -- here, boiled sweets made the old way -- as the anchor for a story about starting over, intergenerational family bonds, and village community life.
