About the Invisible series

Emmy Dockery is an FBI analyst obsessed with a theory nobody else believes: that a string of unrelated house fires across the country, each ruled accidental, are actually the work of a single, meticulous serial killer. Sidelined and largely ignored by her own bureau, she keeps building the case alone -- a premise James Patterson and attorney-novelist David Ellis use to drive a slow-burn conspiracy thriller about institutional dismissal as much as the killer himself.

Invisible (2014) sets up Emmy's theory and her fight to be taken seriously; Unsolved (2019) picks the case back up with new fires and new stakes. The two-book series is a complete arc centered on Emmy's persistence rather than an ongoing franchise.
