The Grey Knights are the Imperium's most secretive Space Marine chapter -- daemon-hunters raised by the Inquisition's Ordo Malleus, every battle-brother a trained psyker sworn to meet the warp's horrors head-on rather than let them fester unseen. Ben Counter's trilogy follows Justicar Alaric, a Grey Knight who breaks his chapter's rigid law by accepting help from an outsider during a daemonic incursion, and is put on trial for it even as the wider threat he uncovered continues to grow.
Grey Knights (2004) opens with Alaric's transgression and its consequences; Dark Adeptus (2006) and Hammer of Daemons (2008) follow him through further daemon-hunts across the Imperium as he works to redeem himself in his chapter's eyes while confronting threats that keep testing where the letter of Grey Knight law should give way to necessity. Alongside the Soul Drinkers, this trilogy is one of Counter's two major contributions to Black Library's Space Marine fiction, and it remains a well-regarded entry point for readers curious about the Grey Knights specifically -- a chapter otherwise kept deliberately mysterious in Warhammer 40,000 lore.
Three: Grey Knights (2004), Dark Adeptus (2006), and Hammer of Daemons (2008), later collected as The Grey Knights Omnibus (2009).
Justicar Alaric, a Grey Knight of the Imperium's secretive daemon-hunting Space Marine chapter, who is put on trial by his own order after breaking with its strict rules during a daemonic incursion.
