Sophie Kinsella

Sophie Kinsella has written 28 books across 2 series. Start with Shopaholic.

Sophie Kinsella is the pen name of British author Madeleine Wickham, adopted for the comic novels that made her one of the most successful voices in contemporary chick lit, beginning with The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic (2000). That book introduced Becky Bloomwood, a financial journalist hopelessly, hilariously unable to manage her own money, and launched the Shopaholic series, which ran across multiple sequels and was adapted into the 2009 film Confessions of a Shopaholic starring Isla Fisher. Beyond Shopaholic, Kinsella has published a long run of standalone romantic comedies, including Can You Keep a Secret?, Remember Me?, and I've Got Your Number, generally built around an ordinary, likeable, slightly chaotic heroine navigating a big secret, misunderstanding, or life upheaval on the way to both romance and self-discovery. Her books are known for a light, fast, dialogue-driven comic voice, often narrated in first person with a confiding, slightly breathless energy. She has also written a children's series, Mummy Fairy and Me, illustrated for younger readers, and continued publishing new adult fiction into the 2020s. Kinsella's combination of broad commercial appeal and genuine comic craft has made her one of the defining names in the romantic-comedy fiction boom of the 2000s and beyond.
