Mike Lupica

Mike Lupica has written 15 books across 4 series. Start with Spenser.

Mike Lupica is an American sportswriter and novelist who, since 2020, has continued Robert B. Parker's Spenser series with new entries such as Robert B. Parker's Broken Trust, following the earlier continuation authorship of Ace Atkins, and carrying forward the Boston private investigator Parker created in 1973's The Godwulf Manor. Lupica writes the Spenser novels in close accordance with Parker's terse, wisecracking style and the character's long-running relationships with psychologist Susan Silverman and enforcer Hawk.

Lupica built his primary career as a nationally syndicated sports columnist, including decades with the New York Daily News, and has separately written a large body of bestselling sports-themed fiction for young readers, including Travel Team and Heat, which draw directly on that sportswriting background. Continuing Spenser represents a later-career expansion into an established franchise rather than a series he originated himself.

A new reader wanting Lupica's own Spenser entries should start with Broken Trust, though readers new to the character overall are generally better served starting with Parker's original The Godwulf Manor to see where Spenser began. There is no film or TV adaptation tied to Lupica's specific entries, though the character has a long screen history via Robert Urich's Spenser: For Hire television series.
