Jojo Moyes is a British novelist born in London in 1969. She began her career as a journalist, spending roughly a decade at The Independent before leaving full-time reporting in 2002 to write fiction, publishing her debut novel, Sheltering Rain, the same year. Her early books were well-reviewed but modest sellers; it was Me Before You (2012), the story of a young caregiver and the quadriplegic man she's hired to look after, that turned her into a genuinely global bestseller, eventually selling more than twenty million copies and inspiring a 2016 film for which Moyes wrote the screenplay herself.

Since then she has written two further novels following the same central character, Lou Clark (After You and Still Me), alongside a long run of standalone novels that move between contemporary settings and closely researched historical ones -- Depression-era Kentucky in The Giver of Stars, occupied France in The Girl You Left Behind, post-war Australia in The Ship of Brides. Her fiction returns often to women navigating class, circumstance and other people's expectations of them, told in a voice that pairs emotional weight with real narrative pace.

Moyes has twice won the Romantic Novelists' Association's Romantic Novel of the Year Award and has sold more than 40 million books worldwide across translations into dozens of languages. She continues to publish regularly, with We All Live Here released in 2025, and lives with her family in Essex, England.
